Catching a very inexpensive airline fare takes research and knowledge; fuel prices, airfare, and miscellaneous airline charges can cause a airplane ticket to skyrocket. But, before you give up just know that travel is actually less expensive this right now than in previous years.
Seasonal airline ticket prices are the lowest since 2009, according to a travel survey by the airfare app, Hopper.
Although month-t0-month prices are on the rise from spring to summer, overall flight prices are at an all-time low. In fact, Hopper predicts that flights to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will drop by 32 percent this month.
But, next month, look for airline tickets to edge up slightly to $240 before steadily declining each month until October, when the average ticket price will decrease to $206, according to Hopper.
The company also predicts prices will likely drop for these destinations as well: Miami, Philadelphia, Houston, Orlando, Las Vegas, Key West, Fort Lauderdale, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Mexico City, Tokyo, London, and Cancun.
If you want to keep track of how airline prices rise and fall each day, check out this interactive consumer airfare index map. It lets you enter your local airport and then tells you if prices are going up or down for most flights out of that airport.
